READING COMPREHENSION TEACHER’S NAME: J. Martínez V.
3-YEAR-OLD HITS THE ROAD IN SEARCH OF PARENTS
It was the middle of the night and 3-years old Lupita awoke early when she heard some noises. Her pregnant mother and her father had left their home for the hospital, but she didn't know that.
So Lupita, determined to find out where they had gone, put on her backpack, went outside -- while still in her pajamas -- and started walking.
That's when truck driver Ken Pinkham, returning home at 4 a.m., saw the little girl by herself on Garden Avenue in San Jose.
Pinkham called police on his cell phone while at the same time keeping her in sight. He stayed back a few paces so as not to scare her.
Officers gently stopped the girl, who spoke only Spanish. She began yelling and kicked one officer in the groin, Pinkham said.
The officers put her in a police car temporarily and then took her back home, just a block away.

A GHOST?
Did TV cop, Kojak, alias Telly Savalas, see a ghost? That is the question he has asked himself since the night in November 1957 when, driving in a rural area of Long Island, he ran out of petrol at 3 a.m. He says: "I went into a coffee shop to ask the way to a petrol station and I was told to walk a mile down the road. I had just started walking when I heard someone ask if I wanted a lift. I turned and saw a man in a black Cadillac. I got into the car and he drove me to the petrol station. He even gave me a dollar to buy the petrol. I insisted that I wanted to pay him back, and he wrote down his name, address and phone number so that I could return the money. His name was Harry Agannis."
Savalas says that a few days later he telephoned the number and asked for Harry Agannis. A woman answered the phone. She told him that Harry Agannis was her husband – but that he had been dead for three years. Amazed and intrigued Savalas decided to visit the woman. He took with him the piece of paper the man had given him. "I showed it to her," says Savalas, "and she told me that it was definitely her husband’s handwriting. I described the clothes of the man in the Cadillac, and she told me that they were the clothes her husband had been buried in."
So did Savalas see a ghost? "I just don’t know," he says. "I’ll never forget the incident but I doubt if I’ll ever be able to explain it."

POSTMEN PUT A BOYCOTT ON HOUSE WHERE 'DANGER PUSS' WAITS FOR THEM.
A cat in a quiet Hampshire town has already injured seven postmen and women. "Purrdey", the 11-year-old black cat spits, jumps at the throat and digs its claws into anyone trying to deliver to the address in New Milton.
"This cat is dangerous," said Alan Booth, spokesman for the Royal Mail. "It attacks anyone trying to approach the house. It leaps in the air as if it were a tiger."
"It's all rather embarrassing," said Mr Rice, the owner of the cat, who has taken chocolates to the local post office to try to make amends.
"There's a warning up there saying 'Beware of Alan Rice's cat,' " he added.
Cats have occasionally stopped the mail getting through before: last year an animal named "Boo Boo" prevented deliveries in Cardiff.
Other boycotts have been caused by geese, seagulls, and, in Gloucestershire, a particularly plucky pheasant.
QUESTIONS
A. What animal is scaring the Royal Mail?
1) a tiger
2) a cat
3) a pheasant
B. Who is Alan Rice?
1) a postman
2) the man who owns the animal

C. What did Mr. Rice find in the post office when he brought chocolates there?

2) a sign saying "Be careful. Mr Rice is crazy."
3) a sign saying "Be careful. Mr Rice is very violent."
BAD FOR TEETH; GOOD FOR DENTISTS.
Where do British children go after school? Directly to the sweet shop! There they buy toffee, chewing gum and a fantastic variety of chocolate bars with funny names. British adults eat a lot of sweets too… especially at Easter, when they buy the family big chocolate eggs filled with their favourite sweets.
But how much do Britons spend on sweets per year? Every man, woman and child in the UK spends more than £1.16 per week on 250 g of sweets. This is the total price of 37,600 Rolls Royce’s – or 50 Jumbo jets! It’s a record in the European Community.
Another British record is the high number of children and adults with dental problems. So it’s not surprising that they have school dentists in England…
QUESTIONS

2) The cost of Jumbo jets
3) British pubs
B) What is equivalent to the price of 50 Jumbo jets?
