His father, Felix de Guzman, was noble companion of the King. His mother was Blessed Joan of Aza Sunday who got his education first.
When I was six years was released to an uncle, Archpriest for literary education. At the age of fourteen he was sent to the Study of Palencia, the first and most famous of all this part of Spain, and in studying liberal arts, ie all the human sciences and sacred theology. The boy was delivered Sunday to a full study of theology.
Those were times of continuous wars against the Moors and Christians among the princes. A great famine occurred throughout that region of Palencia. Sunday was of profound pity on the poor and giving them their belongings. In Sunday's ears the words of the master hammer: "A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another as I have loved you." The time that it was only what is most precious books. Then he thought: "How can I keep looking at dead skin (parchment), where my brothers live in the flesh are starving." One day she came into his presence a woman crying and said, "My brother has fallen a prisoner of the Moors." On Sunday it has no longer anything to give. Sold as a slave decides to rescue the slave. This act of Sunday shook Palencia.
Sunday moved to the city of Palencia so that there was a movement of love and made it unnecessary to sell your books or delivered as a slave. It also emerged that vocations to the Order founded later Sunday. At 24 years old, was named Sunday by the Bishop of Osma to be a canon of the cathedral. A los 25 años fue ordenado sacerdote. For 25 years he was ordained priest.
King Alfonso VIII had ordered the Bishop of Osma, in 1203, the mission sent to Denmark to seek the hand of a lady of nobility to his son Fernando. The Bishop accepted and as travel companion carries Sunday. Passing through France, Flanders, the Rhineland and England, Sunday was concerned to note the extension of the great heresies, the Cathars, Waldenses and other Heresies from Eastern Manichaeism. Denied many of these dogmas of the Catholic faith, including the redemption by the Cross of Christ and the sacraments.
Santo Domingo recibe Santo Domingo is el rosario de la Virgen Our Lady of the Rosary

Understanding the need to educate those people who fell into the heresy, determined to found the Order of Preachers, willing to travel to towns and cities everywhere to the light of the Gospel. Funda centros de apostolado en todo el sur de Francia. Funda ministry centers throughout the south of France. Pero, reconociendo que para combatir las herejías era necesario una buena formación teológica, busca un doctor en teología que instruyera a la comunidad.
